BROCHURES

What makes a good brochure? A clear, concise, and singular message. Too much text or too many messages can overwhelm readers and dissipate the impact of marketing efforts. Leave room for the elements of design and good visual content. Good copy writing and good design are equally important.

SAMPLE #1: INDENA

Client Profile: Indena is a raw material supplier for the dietary supplements industry. Get this: they are the world's largest herbal extractor. That can't be a small task, eh?

Project Challenge: Very short turn-around time was available, as Indena needed the brochure for an upcoming trade show. They had no graphics available and no design standards to go on.

Project Solution: I decided the best maneuver was to make use of the logo for design direction and color matching. Thus, the leaf motif is incorporated throughout the brochure to keep it consistent with Indena's overall marketing presence. Indena was very happy with the results, and the quick turn-around. And, in the course of the project, I was even able to supply them with a streamlined vector-based graphic of their logo.

SAMPLE #2: CASA DEL SOL

Client Profile: Casa Del Sol is a Spiritual Community & Resource Center just outside of Santa Cruz, offering religious studies and meditation classes for youth and adults alike.

Project Challenge: As an organization, Casa Del Sol is a very human-centered place. Warm, funny, full of love and positive emery... they needed a logo that matched the spirit of their mission and their people.

Project Solution: I created a very "organic" look that made use of the colors, rich imagery, and natural beauty found at the center. The sun image was an obvious choice. In order to make the brochure and Casa's printed materials more human and inviting, simplicity was favored over perfectionism and sharp, straight lines. And of course, making use of their photograph collection was essential to communicating their message, and introducing who they are as a community-oriented organization.

SAMPLE #3: DR. AMY COOPER, D.H.S. ~ LOVE YOUR SEX LIFE

Client Profile: A bit of a pioneer, Dr. Amy Cooper, D.H.S. (Doctor of Human Sexuality) helps individuals to improve their sex life and overcome the physical, mental, and emotional roadblocks surrounding this somewhat taboo subject in our culture.

Project Challenge: Dr. Cooper wanted a sensual look and feel to her business. She also wanted a logo that wasn't "gender-role-specific."

Project Solution: Choosing very warm colors and an array of digital lighting effects, I created a set of business materials that directly captured the look and feel she wanted. For the logo, I chose stylized figures that could be interpreted as either male of female. Dr. Cooper wanted to find a way to incorporate a few Rodin painting images. I choose to soften and mute the images as well as taint the colors so that they would fit the design style.

SAMPLE #4: WORDGIRL BROCHURE

Client Profile: Sara Lovelady, a.k.a. the infamous "Wordgirl," is a long-time copy writing professional who caters specifically to the needs of the natural foods and products industry.

Client Quote: "Verve Man is a life-saver! I needed fabulous, fun graphics for my business that still looked professional and trustworthy. Dune Thomas delivered just the look I was searching for -- quickly and for a reasonable price." -- Sara Lovelady, Wordgirl

Project Challenge: Wordgirl needed a brochure ready for a trade show which was less than two days away! By most standards, this kind of turn around is impossible because of advance prep-time required by most printing press services.

Project Solution: Making good use of Wordgirl's branding images, I was able to produce a design that not only suited her needs for an excellent brochure, but one that could be printed immediately using some clever in house options. The result was a 100% professional-looking full color glossy brochure, printed and ready for pickup the evening before the show.
